In the scene where he’s walking out of the pavilion in slow motion with his bat under his arms, to play his most memorable innings, he doesn’t resemble the Indian skipper, he Looking the part was intrinsic to his success here and he manages well in rendering Dhoni’s body language and mannerisms. But when he does, there’s little to look forward to.Īn obvious lapse here is the lack of conflict. His friends deliver on the job of being unflinchingly dedicated in helping the Ranchi boy realise his dreams. Braving multiple setbacks, he continues to shine in domestic tournaments and eventually, makes it into the Indian team. Several inter-school tournaments and countless towering sixes later, Dhoni resigns himself to being a ticket checker, when he begins playing for the Railways. His school’s cricket coach, Banerjee (Rajesh Sharma) recognises his ability and signs him up as the team’s wicketkeeper. The film opens with Dhoni’s childhood, at a time when he was a goalkeeper in his school’s football team. But lack of surprises aside, this one’s a story of a railway TC who goes on to lift the World Cup - which in itself has enough fodder for translating into an inspiring tale of overcoming all odds to achieve ultimate glory. A large part of this blame can be pinned on the film’s trailer, a small part on Wikipedia. But this 'untold story' has little that will enlighten Dhoni fans about his life prior to donning the blue jersey.
